A Small, Big Wedding (Part 7) – Upcycled Wonderland

balcony-3

Ranjit bhaiya arrived a month before the wedding. His job was to ensure that things ran smoothly around the house. His arrival coincided with Ma resolving to decorate our balcony herself. What followed over the next 30 days was a jugalbandi of Ma’s upcycling ideas and bhaiya’s unbelievable arts and crafts. I woke up every morning to find Ma plonked in the middle of a pile of her de-junking finds, turning old fabric and accessories into legit wedding décor. Stepping out, I’d see bhaiya folded over the balcony railing to tie fabric on corners which I always assumed were impossible to reach.  When they were done, our balcony looked like a little spaceship; hovering low, inviting onlookers to get on board.
